ZEN are about to release their second EP, “Peace & Quiet.” The album is a fine composition featuring the current 5-piece lineup, which includes the regulars you’d expect to find in an alternative metal sound – guitars, drums, bass – but is garnished with triggered samples, keys and synth sounds, and if you can’t understand what one vocalist is saying, you have two more to listen to! ZEN are loyally carrying the sound of alternative metal, in the vein of just-a-little-bit-crazy artists like System of a Down, Mr. Bungle/Faith No More and Slipknot. ZEN’s music dances a light-hearted parody around current socio-political issues whilst riding a brutal rhythmic rollercoaster that is likely to cause vomiting through the ears. In a good way of course. Unless you’re into Math-Metal, in which case you’ll probably need to skip a grade. “Peace & Quiet” features three full tracks about our godless and oversexed society, as well as a vocal rendition of Dies Irae, a 13th Century Latin hymn. Just don’t read the translation; it suggests that all we sinners are doomed to be smote with trumpets and lions… Peace & Quiet is fun for all the family!
